About Gamesley Community Group CIO

Empowering our community through services and projects, fostering connection and responsibility for the Gamesley hub.

Background & history.

The current building was constructed in the 1970s as a social club, as part of a buy-a-brick scheme for the community. the club came into some financial difficulties and Derbyshire CC stepped in to take ownership, and run it as a community sports centre.

Derbyshire CC are now in a position where they need to cut costs significantly, and are therefore in the process of shutting the centre down. A group, consisting mainly of local residents, setup to help save the centre. We have now set up a not-for-profit organisation as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) so that we can complete a community asset transfer.

The community centre & group have organised a variety of fund raising events, along with setting up a crowd funding page which is currently in excess of £30,000
